Dr Shilpa Nair graduated with a PhD in Molecular Medicine from the University of Auckland and was part of the
microbiology team of the Biocide Toolbox Programme funded by MBIE, the Ministry of Business, Innovation
and Employment.
Qualifications
PhD in Molecular Medicine, Master's Degree in Biotechnology, and Bachelor's Degree in Biotechnology
and Botany with double majors.
Her PhD evaluated the potency of long-term active biocide using several bacterial strains, including
antibiotic resistant strains and spores. She established protocols to check antimicrobial potency for
long-lasting biocides, and observed that biocide efficacy can differ between in vitro and real-world
conditions.
Her experience in testing antimicrobial products helps customers choose an effective product for their
premises and supports manufacturers in assessing the efficacy of their product.
